The first step to designing a renovation is to have a strong brief. As a home owner you may think you know exactly what you want to achieve, but that is often not the case. Taking your ideas and formulating them into a concise outline for your project takes time and a solid understanding of building and construction as well as ergonomics and style. But this process can avoid costly revisions, variations and disappointment.
That’s where I can help.
With an Honours Degree in Industrial Design, an Advanced Certificate in Design and an Advanced Diploma of Building Design almost complete, I have 7 years of formal training including Building codes and regulations, construction technology, Ergonomics (the study of people’s efficiency when using products, systems and spaces), Innovation, Aesthetics, Drafting, and Colour Theory. Over these years I also had training and access to wood and metal workshops where I honed my natural crafting skills and learnt hands on construction techniques.
On top of this formal education, I’ve also had years of hands-on DIY experience working alongside builders and tradies, which has given me a solid understanding of what is required to make an idea become reality. Not just any reality … your reality!
What makes ME unique from other design SERVICES?
Firstly, Architects are often more expensive than Building Designers. While typically Architectural training is more in depth than Building Design, my previous education and experience gives me the skills required to push the boundaries of creativity and come up with something unique and practical for you just like an Architect would. Where this differs is that I have spent many years working alongside builders and understand that a design must also meet the clients budget for it to be feasible.
As part of every design project, I undertake a ‘Fit Flow Feel’ study as part of the project brief. This is my 3 point check to ensure the design works for you and your family, is efficient and practical plus looks great.
The quality of the documents provided to you as part of this study will provide the perfect foundation to build upon as we progress into the concept design phase. If you are not ready to progress to the design stage or you would prefer to speak to other designers before you commit further, you can take this brief package with you. I’m so confident that you will want to make use of all of my services that I provide this first consultation and document package for only $175. Other services may be FREE but they usually include a very quick consultation with no documentation provided.
